In this article, we will talk about how to get dark mode on Google Play Store. The dark mode for Android arrived with the launch of Android 10. But Google acted lethargically when it came to adapting its own applications to this color scheme.
You could opt for dark mode in as early as September 2019, but the dark mode for Google Play Store was released in March 2020. If you haven’t got it yet here we will describe how to get dark mode on Google Play Store.
How to Get Dark Mode on Google Play Store
The black carries its own charm. IT is light on the batter and stresses our eyes less. Moreover, when we have a dark mode on, the app icons and text get prominence in the overall interface. If you have not tried this option yet or not aware of where to go and how to get it. Here is the list of steps you need to follow.
- First head to the Google Play Store on your Android mobile phone or tablet.
- Tap the hamburger in the top left corner of the device screen.
- Go to the “Settings” option which you will find next to “Theme” under the “General” gear.
- Here you can see a popup menu with three different options. These are “Light”, “Dark”, and “System Default”.
- Tap the “Dark” option and save.
When you select the dark mode, the Play Store theme will override the system settings if it is set to “Light” mode. Now the store will appear dark for you. If you opt for the light mode the color scheme will turn to white even if the default system theme is dark.
The third option “System default” tells the currently opened app to follow the device’s default theme settings.
Darkening the Google Play Store on Older Android Versions
The system-wide dark mode option is only for the Android 10 and later versions of the Android operating system. If you have a smartphone or a tablet that is running on the older version of the Android OS such as 9.0 and older you can still get a dark mode on the Google Play Store app.
To achieve that you will have to follow the same steps as mentioned above. Open the application, go to the top right corner, and tap the menu button. Here go to the General settings and you will find the theme menu.
